RECEPTIONIST/OFFICE ASSISTANT [part-time]
BRIC Arts | Media | Brooklyn is a multi-disciplinary arts and media non-profit, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn's diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process. We are seeking a well organized, detail-oriented, poised individual to serve as receptionist, assist with general office operations and database management, prepare mailings and manage daily operations of theater space rentals.
The responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to:
- answer phones, receive visitors, field general inquiries and information requests;
- manage schedule for theater space rentals
- maintain office and equipment; order office supplies and track inventory
- maintain and update database
- manage office mail and shipments
- prepare hospitality for meetings
- assist senior staff with copying and general correspondence
The ideal candidate will:
- be a self-starter, outgoing, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- have 2 or more years of administrative experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft programs including word, excel and access is essential; power point and HTML are a plus).
- A BA degree is strongly preferred.
Part-time position: 1-6 pm Mon-Fri (some flexibility required)
$15/hour plus benefits

Job Posting: Operations Assistant
Located in the heart of Brooklyn's cultural district in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Community Access Television (BCAT) is Brooklyn's public access cable television program. BCAT is a program of BRIC Arts | Media | Brooklyn, a multi-disciplinary arts and media non-profit, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn's diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process.
BCAT provides low cost media education training in all aspects of television production for Brooklyn residents through its Center for Media Education (CME) program; operates three channels of cable television for use by the public to create and present programs of community interest (Brooklyn Free Speech TV); produces programs of interest to Brooklyn residents (Brooklyn Independent Television); and operates a community bulletin board on a fourth cable television channel (Brooklyn Bulletin Board TV). Employees often perform their duties in a mentoring capacity, consistent with BCAT's role as an educational facility. The community services and programs provided by BCAT make a key contribution to the mission of BRIC Arts | Media | Brooklyn.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Assistant is part of a team that provides support to BCAT facilities, personnel and community producers. This position is part of the NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit at BCAT.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Office Management: ordering and organizing office and production supplies, monitoring physical plant and office equipment, arranging for cleaning and repairs, distributing and sending mail.
- Floater: assist in Public Equipment room, which loans television equipment to community producers, Master Control, the control room for station programming, on television shoots, and in other aspects of station operations.
- Education Program Administration: process paperwork for students enrolled in television production classes; assist with registration and orientation; make database entries; help students comply with station requirements.
- Communications: act as the point person to answer queries from the public regarding BCAT education programs, internships and programming.
The ideal candidate will possess an associate degree or better in media production; have exceptional interpersonal skills; be highly organized and detail oriented; have at least two years of experience working with digital video cameras and non-linear editing programs (Avid Xpress Pro preferred); and be comfortable working in a professional television studio and control room. The candidate should be available to work on weekends as needed.
Salary: $30,000 per year; benefits package included.

Freelance Master Control Technician:
Job Description: This person is responsible for quality control of four channels; loading programs for playback; creating tape run times; troubleshooting; and maintaining the playback transmission log. Freelancers are responsible for weekend, sick days and vacation coverage. Availability to work flexible hours essential. This is an hourly position: $12/hour. This position is part of the NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit at BCAT. The selected candidate will be or will become a member of NABET-CWA.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and adjusting video and audio levels
- Digitizing promo's and public service announcements for server playback (Seachange)
- Monitoring and updating (up-next menu) Scala
- Process all programs for automated playback (Sundance)
- Transmit live programs when necessary
- Monitor and update college radio programs.

Production Coordinator
A program of BRIC Arts | Media | Brklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! is the borough's premiere summer-long performing arts festival presenting a culturally-diverse season of music, dance, spoken word and film in a large outdoor venue. The Festival has a reputation for excellence that attracts 250,000 attendees from across NYC to the FestivalÕs home at the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer. Reporting to the Celebrate Brooklyn! Production Manager, the Production Coordinator will assist the Production Manager in organizing, coordinating and administering Celebrate Brooklyn!Õs on-site venue and production requirements to ensure smooth running operations. The Production Coordinator will work a heavy schedule including prep days, all performances, and wrap. 3-7 days per week, 10-14 hours per day, depending on production schedule. May 15 to August 26.
Responsibilities include:
Seasonal:
- Set up/maintain/strike Production Office and support areas
- coordinate all production activities
- supervise petty cash, payroll and bookkeeping
- advance and coordinate all shows with artists contracted to perform
- supervise staff, interns and volunteers
- ensure public/artist has best experience possible
Weekly/Daily
- supervise Production Office
- generate and distribute detailed event summaries including technical requirements, hospitality, special needs, schedules, etc.
- advance performers' sound, lighting and other technical needs for upcoming shows
- order supplies and rental equipment
- schedule production staff and assignments
- update payroll/petty cash
- update production notebook
The ideal candidate posses strong interpersonal skills and is able to work long hours under pressure. 1-3 years previous experience as a production coordinator or stage manager for a multi-disciplinary performance venue or touring production is required; knowledge of audio; lighting, back-line; stage plots, input lists; ability to supervise and delegate work to others; excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills. IT experience a plus.
Total compensation for the work and schedule described above will be $5,000 - $7,000 based on experience. This is a salaried exempt position.

Front-of-House Manager Consultant Opportunity
Reporting to the Celebrate Brooklyn! Director, the House Manager will organize, coordinate and administer Celebrate Brooklyn!’s on-site front-of-house venue operations. This position begins April 15 and is predominantly off site until the festival begins on June 12. The House Manager must work on site at all performances, most Thursday, Friday and Saturdays (6/12-8/9) usually 5PM till midnight. Some off-site work continues during the 9 weeks of the festival.
Responsibilities include:
- Advance hiring, scheduling, orientation, for a House Staff of 8 including additional substitutes.
- Advance recruitment of at least 15 volunteers for each performance utilizing email and web-based postings, and scheduling volunteers for each performance thru our web-based database.
- Time-keeping for House Staff on a daily basis at all performances.
- Direct supervision and management of audience donation collected by House Staff at venue entrances; festival merchandise sales and artists’ consignment sales by Merchandise/Store Manager; various duties for Volunteers at venue entrances; reserved seating areas;, and as needed elsewhere on the site.
- Collection of audience names, addresses, email for database
- On-site distribution of brochures, programs, promotional items, mailing list info, membership info and other information at entrances and/or merchandise/store area.
- Coordination with Celebrate Brooklyn Sponsorship Manager to utilize Volunteers to distribute sponsor giveaways and assist in set-up and breakdown of various site needs on a show-by-show basis.
- Coordination with development staff to assist with implementing an annual audience survey.
The ideal candidate will have 3 years+ experience as a Front-of-House Manager in a theater environment and a strong ability to recruit, organize and direct staff. Strong verbal communication skills; organizational skills, and a professional presence required.
Compensation: Total compensation for the work and schedule described above will be $6,000. Payment schedule is negotiable. This is a salaried exempt position.
