About BRICstudio
An alternative space for new and emerging performance
BRICstudio, BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn newest program, opened its doors in November 2001. Located in the former Strand Theater building in Fort Greene/Downtown Brooklyn, BRICstudio provides a platform for the development of new works in theater, dance, music and multi-disciplinary performance; as well as subsidized rehearsal, rental and performance space for non venue-based artists and arts organizations. The 4,000 square foot black box theater accommodates up to 74 people in a comfortable cabaret setting, with flexible stage and seating arrangements.
BRIClab, a commissioning and residency initiative launched at BRICstudio in 2007, is a vital incubator for artists and the creative process. Through intensive one-week residencies, BRIClab provides emerging innovators and established performers with time, space and support to explore new works in various stages of development. BRIClab artists-in-residents receive: rehearsal space, production and technical support, marketing, stipends and partnership opportunities. In addition, artists are paired with Creative Advisors who provide invaluable mentoring and feedback. BRIClab residencies culminate in multiple work-in-process presentations designed for audiences craving creative provocation and exchange.
