THE ROTUNDA GALLERY
EXHIBITION SCHEDULE 2004-2005
All the Numbers I Know
September 9 - October 23, 2004
Curator: Meridith McNeal
The artists in All the Numbers I Know are inspired by the imbedded patterns in our environments that lend order to the chaos around us: the rhythms and syncopations of music, the gritty systems of urban architecture and the vastness of the night sky. Stepping into the gallery space, one is awed by the complexity of the industrial engineering while delighted to also discover the imperfections of the handmade. With ever-expanding circular forms, hand-stitched grids, geometric sculptures and mesmerizing op-art, the exhibition reveals itself with exquisite subtlety - appearing at once highly abstract and painstakingly rational. Participating artists include Beth Caspar, Juan-Carlos Castro, Matthew Deleget, Nicholas Evans-Cato, Gilbert Hsiao, Monique Luchetti, Rossana Martinez, Shari Mendelson, Doug Morris, Jenny Perlin, Donna Sharrett, Juana Valdes and Elizabeth Zawada.
Conceptual Realism
November 18 - December 31, 2004
Curator: Meridith McNeal
Lyrical, lush and often larger than life, Conceptual Realism features the best of today's Brooklyn artists who embrace the power of realism in the face of an increasingly technologically mediated culture. Using traditional art-making techniques, these artists explore endlessly fresh and provocative contemporary ideas. The finished work will astonish the viewer as it reveals the mystery hiding just beneath the surface of reality. Participating artists represent the broad scope of contemporary realism and include Ann Agee, Don Doe, Alessandra Exposito, Geoff Grogan, Susan Hamburger, Julie Heffernan, Valerie Hegarty, Jill Levine, Joan Linder, Deborah Simon, Su-en Wong and Alexi Worth.
Decipher
January 13 - March 5, 2005
Guest Curator: Yasufumi Nakamori
Subversive, chancy, ecstatic, even Dionysian, Decipher explores a new realm of digital art where artists embrace technology, not in a mechanical manner, but with the sprit of the avant-garde. The featured artists decode and interpret digital technology into their own artistic vocabularies, and create expressionistic, romantic or even utopian art. Decipher is part of The Lori Ledis Curatorial Initiative, a competitive program that supports emerging curators.
Project Diversity
March 17 - May 7, 2005
Project Diversity Weekend Event: Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1
