Selections from the Rotunda/BCAT Multimedia Residency 10th Anniversary exhibition

November 8 – December 22, 2006
Opening Reception: Wednesday, November 8 from 7 to 9 pm

Brooklyn, NY (September 30, 2006) - BRIC’s Rotunda Gallery is pleased to present radiant, an exhibition showcasing the work of artists who have participated in Rotunda’s Artist Residency program since 1996. The residency, offered in collaboration with BCAT/Brooklyn Community Access Television, supports Brooklyn affiliated artists interested in exploring video and/or multimedia as an artistic medium. Over the past ten years, the Artist Residency program has successfully provided 150 emerging artists with financial support, access to state of the art equipment and unrestricted time to develop new work. Capturing the full scope of these artists’ thriving studio practices, radiant will highlight painting and sculpture as well as work from the cutting edge of new media.

Artists include: Jonathan Allen, Douglas Boatwright, Sasha Chavchavadze, Andrea Cote, Mareena W. Daredia, Mariano Del Rosario, Elizabeth Demaray, Geoffrey Detrani, Greg Fuchs, Harvey Loves Harvey, Paul Helzer, Yoko Inoue, Christina Kelly, Winnie Lee, James Leonard, Cynthia Lovett, Diane Meyer, Ann B Murphy, Patrick O’Hare, Kambui Olujimi, Juan Recaman, Elisabeth Smolarz, George Spencer, Chanika Svetvilas, Moira Tierney, Gayle Tanaka, Jason Varone, Tamara Yadao.

"This residency program has provided great support to artists exploring new media and technology in innovative ways. radiant offers an exciting opportunity for us to highlight so many of the dynamic works that have emerged out of artists’ time in this program," explains Gallery Director Isolde Brielmaier.

The Rotunda Gallery Artist Residency program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts Electronic Media and Film program, makes BCAT’s state-of-the-art Media Center available to fifteen selected artists free of charge over a nine month period, and provides training and technical assistance in video and digital production and post-production technologies. Emerging artists who have a strong desire to explore multimedia as a distinct medium or as part of an interdisciplinary approach to art making are encouraged to apply. Artists for the Artist Residency are selected through an open call for applications by a panel made up of representatives from the Gallery, Brooklyn Community Access Television, and the Rotunda Gallery Artists’ Advisory Committee.

BCAT’s services and support programs enable the creation, production, and cable casting of video and computer-generated, non-commercial programs on BCAT’s four cable channels. BCAT strives to promote the power of the individual and the collective voice. Through its production facility, equipment, educational training, channel time, and alternative programming, an environment has been created for Brooklyn’s communities to preserve, enhance, and share the Borough’s diversity of thought and culture. The BCAT media center includes a state of the art studio and studio control area; a training studio that duplicates all of the equipment in the main studio; a mini studio designed for use by a single producer serving as talent and technician; edit suites; field camera packages and a Multimedia Lab, outfitted with Mac and Windows computer workstations equipped with industry standard software and cutting-edge multimedia applications for video program enhancement.
