Rick Moody, David Hollander, Rebecca Moore and One Ring Zero present an evening of Water, Words and Music
On Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at 7:00pm the Rotunda Gallery will present Water, Words and Music, an evening of dramatic readings and musical performance on watery themes, organized by Nelly Reifler. Admission is free, and reservations are required. Call 718-875-4047 x11. It is presented in conjunction with the Gallery’s current exhibition Water, Water, which is on view through May 17th.
Performers include:
Rick Moody, the critically acclaimed author whose novels include The Ice Storm and Purple America, will read pieces from his own work, with musical accompaniment by the members of One Ring Zero. This eclectic duo has performed with acts ranging from The Roots to Medeski, Martin and Wood, and is the "house band" for McSweeney’s publishing.
David Hollander, an author whose work includes the novel L.I.E., will present a unique poetic lecture, including audience participation sing-alongs, on his obsessive interest in the mysterious giant squid.
Singer/songwriter Rebecca Moore will perform her original music and read from a novel in progress. Rebecca’s albums Admiral Charcoal’s Song and Home Wreckordings 1997-1999 were released on Knitting Factory Records; she is currently at work on her third CD for John Zorn’s Tzadik label.
Event organizer Nelly Reifler is an award-winning author and a curator; she is co-editor with Paul Auster of the anthology I Thought My Father was God. Her work has appeared in numerous magazines and journals and her first collection of stories, See Through, will be published by Simon and Schuster later this year. The exhibition Water, Water was organized by guest curator Lilly Wei.
The ROTUNDA GALLERY, housed in an award-winning space designed by Smith-Miller + Hawkinson, showcases the work of Brooklyn artists. The ROTUNDA GALLERY’s educational programs reach 6,000 students each year with gallery visits and in-school art making projects. Janet Riker is the Gallery Director; Meridith McNeal is Associate Director. The ROTUNDA GALLERY is a project of the not-for-profit BRIC/Brooklyn Information & Culture, Inc.
Located in Brooklyn Heights, just over the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, the Gallery is also easily accessible by public transportation. It is a short walk from the 2,3; 4,5; M; N or R trains at the Court Street/Borough Hall station; or the A, C trains at High Street.
