Upcoming Exhibitions

KidsArt
May 30 - June 17, 2006
Curator: Hawley Hussey

Throughout the season, exhibitions at The Rotunda Gallery serve as the inspiration for discussion and hands-on art projects for children from kindergarten through high school. Our annual KidsArt exhibition is a celebration of art created by New York City students participating in The Rotunda Gallery's education programs during the 2005-2006 school year. This kids-eye view of contemporary art features drawing, painting, sculpture, and installations by New York City School children. The Rotunda Gallery Education Program reaches over 9,000 students through its outreach and professional development programs in schools throughout the borough, and the exhibit showcases outstanding, diverse projects by Brooklyn kids of all ages.

The Beautiful Game: Contemporary Art and Fútbol
June 9th – July 22nd, 2006
The exhibition is co-presented by The Brooklyn Institute of Contemporary Art (BICA) and BRIC (Brooklyn Information and Culture, Inc.) It is co-curated by Trevor Schoonmaker and Franklin Sirmans and can be experienced in New York at Roebling Hall at both their Chelsea and Brooklyn gallery locations, with an installation and film screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and additional programming at Brooklyn's Rotunda Gallery (coordinated with assistance by Astrid Persans).

The exhibition will be the first of its kind in the United States and will include original work by roughly 32 artists from across the globe, a music listening component of soccer-related anthems and songs (organized by Piotr Orlov), and live feeds of World Cup matches. An exhibition brochure and several public programs will be produced in conjunction with the show.

Please stay tuned for more information about the exhibition, dates and related events!
